He took his first set of working prototypes to Yosemite in 1974, where he proceeded to climb dozens of difficult routes, proving their effectiveness and ushering in a new era. A visionary athlete, Jardine is credited with discovering and redpointing the world´s first 5.13, the iconic Phoenix, in 1977. His influence extended across the Atlantic when Mark Vallance invited him to visit Wild Country in the Peak District in 1977. There, Ray climbed the first UK routes with Friends, and the partnership to manufacture them began. Our modern Forged Friends are the culmination of nearly 30 years of refinements on Ray´s original, groundbreaking design. Today, Ray continues to live a life of exploration as an adventurer, wilderness expert, sea kayaker, round-the-world sailor, and cross-country hang glider pilot.
